Dual PC MK III comes at the end of a series of cases made to house two full size personal computers . The first two were somewhat hap-hazard affairs and were never really finished. With the MK III version, I wanted to try and make a furniture quality piece to sit next to my desk, in full view.

The carcass is made from West Australian Jarrah and Meranti with aluminium structures inside. The design was arrived at mainly taking into account the cooling needed for all the installed hardware. The scheme is based on a top to bottom design whereby air is drawn into the case from the bottom and expelled from the top via a large vent made by raising the top and leaving a void for ventilation.

Both PC’s were operated at the desktop via a remote control box that had power and reset switches and a slot load DVD burner for each computer. The installed hardware consisted of a dual core and quad core  CPU/motherboard with graphics cards, power supplies and ten hard drives and another pair of optical drives. The cooling fans were wired up to function whether one or both power supplies were running. The main case sits on castors because, lifting just isn’t an option.

Work was started in September 2007 and the piece was completed in March 2008.

Dimensions are H870xW460xD590.
